We welcomed our sweet Madi into the world on September 28th at 3:00am. She weighed 8 lbs 7 oz and 19 inches long. We are so blessed to have her in our family!

Life has been crazy, between weddings and family in town I managed to get my classroom together. I work for a private school for children with special needs and we just expanded our facility into a new building. Now we have a couple buildings for therapies and habilitation and then a separate one for our classrooms. I have a great staff that helped it all come together!

Its smaller than "normal" but I only have 9 kids in my class.

The blue covers on my lights are to cut out the amount of florescent lighting coming into my room. They really make a differenceMy circle time rug just came in TODAY! Oh how I love love love it!

My sister got married! Kim and Curtis were married on August 7th! It was a great sealing. How I adored their sealer, what a special man.

We have an on-going joke in my family. Since Erich and I were dating, he has been know as Prince Erich, from the Little Mermaid of course. Mom always calls Erich "prince Erich." Well now with the addition of Curtis in the family he thought he could be King Curtis. Well my dad, KING KEN, decided a better fit was "Captain Curtis" and dubbed Curtis and Erich at the rehearsal dinner. I don't think anyone else really thought is was funny, but we thought we were hilarious!

Erich and I went to California for a few days! It was so nice to get away and out of the heat for a bit

We went to dinner at Tia Rosa's and home to open giftsWe got together with his family a few days later. Erich actually shares a birthday with our sister-in-law Sammee! Happy Birthday to her as well!

Home Sweet Home

Erich and I moved into our house a couple months ago. I have been very bad about taking pictures of it. Here is one. We are currently changing the front yard. Erich has removed everything and we are putting in all grass. It is going to look great. As for the inside, decorating it is taking longer than I would like. It took us a month or so to get our couch and table but we have them now and love them. If you are looking for a great furniture place try Cortate Furniture on Higley just north of Ray. The hours are weird, but they have great prices.

You know you are loosing it when ......you lock your keys in your car with the car ON!! yes I made this mistake on Saturday while at IKEA. Erich and I were nannying some friend's children while they were out of town. I guess I was a little distracted while getting out of the car. I managed to grab the granola bars, but not turn off the car and take my keys. Thankfully erich works a mile away and a co-worker was able to run the key to me.

BYU Graduation

We were able to go back up to Utah in April so I could walk at graduation. I finished in December but they did not have a commencement then. My parents, sister and grandma joined us. It was so nice seeing all our friends and family while we were there. It really made me miss everyone!! We went to some of our favorite restaurants; Tucanos and Kneaders.

Thank you to Kyle and Tess for letting us stay at your place, it was so fun to spend time with you and hope you make it to AZ soon!!

I feel so blessed to have attended BYU. All through high school I never thought it was something that I was going to do. It obviously was ment to be and Erich and I loved living in Utah. Being able to learn in an environment where we could dicuss the gospel along with our studies was great. I am thankful to all the friends, family and professors that helped achieve this goal

Who knows, a Masters might be in my future. Occupational Therapy?? BCBA???

Lauren had a party for her class at a farm in Queen Creek. A family friend and a little girl that I have worked with for a long time joined her class!
They were able to ride a pony, feed the animals, pet the goats and even see the camel, Jake and a zebra.

A few weeks ago we went down to Tucson for the Rodeo. Erich's grandpa is a committee chair member in planning the rodeo and hooked us up with first class treatment. All our food, admision and parking were paid for, we even got to sit in our own section. Thanks Grandpa!!

Last month my dad turned 50!! can't believe it, I can honestly say he doesn't look that old, well at least to me. We spent the evening at home with pizza, gifts and cake! Then he had to try out all his new presents!

I am trying to put together a boutique for the company I work for to raise a little money. The state just cut all Music Therapy services and 10% off of the habilitation rate. This is a huge cut for our company and some of us are trying to help out! L.I.F.E

I have been working for a company called Lauren's Institute for Education (LIFE) for the last month as an ABA therapist. I have kids that come in a see me for 2 hours at a time where we work on their specific needs. I have also been able to create a couple in home behavior plans for some of my kiddos. I am loving my job and look forward to seeing these special children each day. I recently found out I will be able to teach in LIFE's private academy starting in August! I am looking forward to this opportunity and can't wait to start planning lessons!!

If you know of any kiddos with special needs that are in need of some services, send them my way! We have all the therapies (physical, occupational, music, and speech) plus the academy, structure habilitation classes and ABA therapists!

Last week Aaron and Kacie invited Erich and I to go to a Suns game with them!! We went and grabbed a bit to eat at Cafe Rio and then were off to the game! We had a great time and lots of extra comments about the game from the loud peanut gallery behind us. They were one of a kind!!

Happy Handiversary

January 21st was Charlee Hawkins' 6th "Hand"iversary. Charlee is a friend of mine that lost her life to cancer in high school. Handiversary was a name that Charlee made up to remember the day her finger was amputated due to the cancer. My friend Kacie and I have made it a tradition that every year we hang a sign at her parents house to let them know we remember Charlee and this day. Charlee was a wonderful example to all. I will always remember the strength and positive attitude she had while battling cancer in high school. This little day she made up is a glimpse of her humor during a hard time. Happy Handiversary Charlee!! We miss you!

Christmas

This post is long overdue. Erich and I had a wonderful Christmas back at home! Last year we stayed in Utah for the holidays, so this was our first one with our families!! We spent Christmas Eve with my family where we went to see the temple lights and Jordan Bluth was singing. We stayed the night at my parents and opened presents with them in the morning. I sent Erich on a scavenger hunt to find his gift. Erich is not one to ever spend money, but the one thing he has always wanted was a new TV. So I went out on a limb and bought one for him. I had to be a little sneaky to find out what kind he wanted, but his friends were able to get all the dirt for me. When he found the gift his response was, " you went over budget." haha!! Sadly the TV is still in the box until we find a house!

We spent the afternoon in between his mom's and dad's house. I was so nice to be around family and enjoy the day together.

Well its been over a year since I have been able to go to Phoenix Children's Hospital and dress up in costumes to visit the patients. Kacie and I went on Saturday and it was such a great thing to do in the Christmas season. The kids were so cute, and although they are going through so much they still have a smile on their faces!

The Move

Well we ended up leaving Utah in a rush. Which means I didn't get to say good bye to so many people! We planned on staying until Sunday to attend a couple Christmas parties but then the weather man kept saying snow was coming! With this in mind we knew it would be best to leave before it hit. Erich flew in early Friday morning, I finished student teaching at 2 while Erich picked up the truck. Some wonderful people from the ward came to help move the boxes into the truck! (thank you Matt, Jeff, Rebecca, and Aubrey) It only took half hour. Then Erich and I cleaned and were on our way by 6pm. We stayed the night in St. George and drove the rest of the way on Saturday. With the silly trailer we had for Erich's car the speed limit was 55, so a 11 hour trip quickly turned into a total of 15 hours!!! We are glad to be home and close to family, although I do miss so many people in Utah! Here are some pictures of our adventure

Thanksgiving

We had a great Thanksgiving this year. Erich was already in AZ for work and I originally planned on just staying in Utah. Late Wednesday afternoon my dad called telling me he had a ticket. I was a little hesitant but took the offer and flew home that night. I surprised Erich! He had no idea. A friend of his made up a story that he had to pick up a cousin from the airport. Well come to find out that "cousin" was me!! He was so surprised, if only I could have gotten a picture of his face! Priceless! but my camera was being weird at the moment. This is him in the car, so shocked! We were able to have dinner with both families, but I didn't take any pictures. I need to work on that.

I did take some pictures of my student's Thanksgiving crafts! So fun!

Joys of student teaching

There is not a day that goes by that my students don't crack me up! They are hilarious and very entertaining. Here are some fun moments, but you might have had to have been there to think they are funny!

One student started busting out the robot one afternoon. This is totally out of character for him and he did it for like 5 minutes. I just had to stop what I was teaching because we were all so distracted by him!
Learning about coins and the pictures of different presidents on each one. I told my students we would learn what president was on the quarter the next day when one student shouts out, " I think it is President Hinckley!"
Asked a student what she was going to be for Halloween and replied, "Jesus." This went on for a few days, but then she moved on to Word Girl (which is what she was on Halloween, still not sure what it is)
We were talking about what we eat for Thanksgiving and one student said, " I eat b-taters." With the help from the other adults, I realized it was potatoes! Hilarious!
Learning about manners and we were reading a book that taught us when you burp you should say excuse me (we need to work on this in our class) and then one student raises her hand and says, " I farted and I said excuse me." I had to refrain from laughing and let her know that was the polite thing to do.
Standing up randomly, singing I like to move it, move it, while dancing. We know what movie they saw!
We were learning about Native American writings and how they used symbols and pictures to tell about themselves. We created some of our own about our school and class. I was trying to help my students think of a part of the bus we could draw. Hoping to get an answer like the wheel, or steering wheel, I picked on a student and he held up his hands and said, " this part of the bus." Guess he just wanted me to draw one side which would have worked as well :)

I need to keep a log at school. Really it is non stop! From the minute they come in the room yelling teacher teacher, showing me their lunches and wanting to play thumb wars. I am blessed to be able to spend 6 hours of my day teaching these wonderful children!

Moving to AZ

Erich had a phone interview this week to transfer down to a Verizon store in Arizona and he got the job! We are so relieved to know that he will have work as soon as we move down. In fact he will be down by Nov. 24th and then will come back up to get me when I am done with school. I can't believe that in 7 weeks I will be DONE with school!! I won't know what to do with all my free time ( I am sure I will find something)

It is bitter sweet to be moving home. We want to be close to our families, but I will miss all the wonderful friends we have made while living here. I won't miss the snow though :)

BYU Football

Erich and I decided that we needed to "experience" a BYU football game before moving home. Of course the game we chose happened to be on the coldest day!! There was a chance of snow all day, thankfully it didn't snow but we went to the game prepared! BYU played New Mexico and we won!

General Relief Society Broadcast

My stake was given tickets to the RS Broadcast and some ladies in my ward and I were able to attend. This is always a wonderful meeting but it was so great to be able to be in the presence of our prophet and leaders of the church. The spirit was so strong and the messages given were wonderful. Student Teaching!!

The day Erich and I got back from AZ I started student teaching!! It was a crazy trip home. We arrived in Salt Lake when Erich realized we left his car keys in Arizona at my parent's house. Thankfully I knew someone on the flight that was willing to give us a ride home to Provo! The next task was getting Erich's car to Provo. Once again we were so blessed to have Erich's aunts and uncles flying in as well that afternoon so my mom took them the keys in Arizona and they drove the car to Provo when they got in. We got home to Provo to realize that my car keys were in Erich's car!! I was in a hurry to get to my classroom and my wonderful neighbor Jenn drove me and picked me up from my school. Erich was able to catch the bus to work! Note to self: never leave your keys in another state.

I am loving my student teaching experience. I am in a self-contained special education class and my students range from 1st to 6th grade. I look forward to seeing them each day and it really has been a rewarding experience. Once student refers to me as "Merry Teacher." I assume it is a good thing, but not sure how it came about. I can't believe this is my last semester of college, time has flown by!!

Over Labor Day we got to go home to Arizona for a quick visit. Erich's mom was getting married to Martin and we were so excited to be there for their special day! It turned about beautiful and we wish them the very best. We are looking forward to moving home and getting to know Martin more!!

One Year Anniversary!!

Last Sunday Erich and I celebrated our one year anniversary. Wow does time fly. It also means we have lived in Utah for a year! We have had a wonderful first year and look forward to many more to come. We decided to take a quick trip to Vegas for the weekend. Erich had never been so we thought it would be fun to go see the sites!

We started our weekend by going to a sealing session at the Provo Temple on Saturday. I was told by the sealer ahead of time to make sure to move around and such to keep from fainting. Well even with the warning I still fainted after one of the sealings. I guess it is a good place to be to pass out!!

On Monday it was our nephew, Brock's 4th birthday!! We called him on the phone to wish him a happy birthday and was very excited! This year he wanted Hulk and Indiana Jones toys! We ended up getting him the game the Hungary Hungary Hippo! It's a classic that every kid should have!

Pioneer Day

So this post is a little over due, but better late than never. A couple weeks ago my parents came to visit because we got tickets to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Osmond Pioneer Celebration Concert. It was fun to spend some time with my parents, and see the concert. I wasn't too excited about it, I knew it would be good, but ended up being amazing. If it is ever on KBYU and you have the opportunity to watch it, do it!! My mom could not get enough of it!! If she would have been allowed to stand up I am sure she would have been dancing the night away to all the well known songs that the Osmond's sang!!

I have found a new hobby.... painting frames. I found some unfinished frames at Roberts and have enjoyed painting them!! Its super easy, but that's all I can handle!

These ones I made for a friends baby shower to match her little girl's nursery. I distressed them a bit, but it is kind of hard to tell!

She seemed to like them too!

I also made some for our room, no pictures in them yet. I might make the smaller ones into mirrors. We will see!

Well I am officially done with my summer practicum at Timpview High School. I loved getting to know these students and spending the past 7 weeks with them. I was sad to see them go yesterday and wish them all the best. I learned a lot about myself in this adventure as well. I am actually surprised by some of the things I was able to handle. I had a wide range of abilities in the classroom which made it tricky to plan class activities. I feel the activities my classmate and I planned turned out great! They all loved them. One of our favorites was using colored sand to layer in a jar!! Now I am getting ready for the next and final step for my degree, STUDENT TEACHING. I got my placement and am so grateful that it is close and I have a wonderful mentor teacher that I have met a couple times. I am sure I will learn a lot from her. I am starting to fill out paper work for my habilitation company I plan to start when we move back to Arizona. I am tossing around the name "CHAT":: Cognitive Habilitation and Autism Therapy. What do you think? Any ideas for a logo??

Birthday Fun!!

I had a wonderful 21st birthday yesterday, thanks to my husband, family and friends! My husband got up early with me and made some yummy french toast. I went to teach for summer practicum and got to have my students sing happy birthday to me. I left the school to find that Erich decorated my car! (just as my mom would have :) Erich and I had lunch together and spent the afternoon doing a little shopping (my favorite!!). We went to Sandy to have dinner at a place called the Mayan. They put on a little show with cliff divers within the restaurant! What fun!!

Erich spent most of the day working, so I just spent some time at home catching up on things around the apartment. We met up with some friends to go watch the fireworks from the Stadium of Fire. We could not believe the traffic that was created from this event!! Since it doesn't get dark until 9:30pm here in Utah so we had to kill some time playing cards and people watching :) The show was great and there was an old man sitting next to us that had a lot to say about the fireworks. We were literally rolling on the grass from laughing so hard.

Here are some things he had to say, but you might have had to have been there to really experience it!!

"look at all that action down there"

"ooo that looks like a Christmas tree"

"that's a parachute, yeah look at that parachute"

"that one looks like a flower, what a pretty flower."

"o I like that, that is nice!"

Well I have been trying to figure out how this all works, it only took a couple hours!!!! But here goes nothing! I hope to keep a little log of what Erich and I are up to. Although most of the time it is school and work, sometimes our lives are a little exciting and we will be able to share our adventures with you all!
